Columns and Beams

So here we are, at the end of our Columns and Beams first project. It was a great opportunity for the students to make good use of the skills they have learned in the Scaffolding, Footings and Wall Modules because this time, the formwork has to be supported above ground. Imagine: with the same technique, you could be building a school, a mall, or a skyscraper! Students had to start working with a blueprint. They were able to locate each column precisely and start to build every piece from there.

Because the group is split in teams, the students get to work with others. Often, carpenters have to join forces in order to accomplish the bigger tasks. That is especially true when you are working above ground. It is really important to have someone on the floor who understands what is going on up in the air!
