Vallée de Châteauguay CLCGDPL caravan
Franklin + Hemmingford Elementary
The Challenge is on!
Multiple elementary schools at our board are working hard in the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie (GDPL) energy cube challenge! Each cube equals 15 minutes of physical activity, as the contest encourages students to move as much as they can. Franklin Elementary hosted a bike excursion to promote the idea of physical activity to family and community members. The GDPL caravan also stopped in at Hemmingford Elementary to offer students a number of different activities – allowing the students an opportunity to accumulate even more cubes while having a blast!

Yoga @ HeritagePatrimoine
Yoga time!
Elizabeth Chanona gave our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes the experience of a real yoga class. Students had been working on Yoga moves all year and the teachers thought having a professional come in to offer a class would enhance their learning experience. The students loved it and are excited to continue their yoga until the end of the school year.Community Garden

        The Cooperation Garden
The ‘Huntingdon community garden’, which is located behind City Hall right beside our school, is now up and running. The Grade 5 students planted (cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, beans, corn and onions) and prepared the garden for harvesting. They’ll tend to it until school ends and the Huntingdon Day Camp will keep it going over the summer months!

HAECC
A time to celebrate!
Our centre had an exceptional year with over 20 students graduating from our Adult General Education program (FG – formation générale). The graduation was a spectacular event filled with many happy faces and even a few sad smiles as students leave HAECC behind to head onto new and exciting adventures.GRad

Caregivers Course a success!
A unique partnership, between the sponsoring community group Assistance and Referral Centre for Health and Social Services (ARC), along with the CECN (Chateauguay English Community Network), NFSB and Riverside School Boards, created a free course for caregivers which provided the participants the necessary tools, skills, techniques and strategies to care for a child, adolescent, adult or senior. http://nfsb.me/caregivers-working-togetherIMG_9434

The SPRING ARTISAN MARKET
The 2nd edition of the Artisans Market returned to the Centre on Saturday May 28th. The Artisan Market celebrates and promotes local creative talent, as over 30 artisans attended. In addition part of the proceeds from the event are donated back to our elementary schools art initiatives. The next market will take place on Saturday, October 15th from 10am-4pm.

St. Willibrord
Music magic!
One of the lucky schools that benefitted from last year’s Artisan Market donation (partnership with NOVA Career Centre), St. Will decided to use those funds to help have a percussionist return during the school this year, Mr. Moise Yawo Matey (he initially worked with the school with funds from a Culture in the Schools grant). He was awesome and the students loved it! He also did a drumming workshop with our music teacher Ms. Bouchard and there is even talk of maybe working on a school song for next year… stay tuned.gerin_lajoie_community_wednesday

Community Wednesdays continue to roll!
Another year of Community Wednesdays came to an end at école Gérin-Lajoie in early May. Over 425 people packed into the school to visit the kiosks, have a spaghetti dinner, watch the Irish dancers, learn to plant flowers or take part in one of the many activities. EducaZoo was a huge hit! Preparations for next year are already underway.

 MWCN is the new name!
The CECN (Chateauguay English Community Network) is now known as the Montérégie West Community Network (MWCN). At the Chateauguay partnership table and annual AGM (Annual General Meeting) in May, the community group officially changed its name and its boundaries to now include the Chateauguay Valley territory. The aim of the group, while still to offer services to the region (such as: writing, language, knitting course and social events), is to also facilitate the sharing of information and expertise between local partnering groups, especially in the realm of health and social services to better work together. Our CLC team and school board are proud to be part of this growing community network in our region.IMG_1098IMG_0947

NOVA Career Centre + HAECC + CVCEC
The beautiful game!
16 teams from various Adult & Vocational Education Centres from across Quebec participated in the Adult Education Athletics Association first-ever Soccer Tournament, organized in collaboration with NOVA during the month of May. Games ran all day on the upper soccer field at Howard S. Billings High School. The Welding Department also hosted a fundraising lunch while the action was going on. Congratulations to all the teams involved and to CVCEC on winning the championship! video: http://nfsb.me/the-beautiful-gameScreen Shot 2016-05-12 at 4.13.17 PMScreen Shot 2016-05-12 at 4.11.45 PM

HAECC
students tightened their laces and put their best foot forward during the tournament, as they took this inaugural event very seriously as they practiced on multiple days prior to the event. The team was very competitive as they faced some stiff competition, but came away with 2 big wins and losing a close game in the semi-finals. The students are already preparing and looking forward to next year’s tournament.HAECC_soccer_2016
