Giving the gift of life

NOVA hosted again its annual Blood drive in the RV shop, spotlessly cleaned by our great custodial staff for the activity.  The event was initiated by a student a few years ago, and since, became a must every year.

Héma-Québec are always impressive in their organization of the drive. “We organize 3000 drives annually” says Alain Senécal and Caroline DeBlois, coordinator and supervisor for Héma-Québec. “We have nurses, volunteers, truck drivers…”  There is no minimal number of donors for a specific drive.  “We have three types of events: a mobile unit that moves on-site to businesses, mega-clinics where we can have close to one thousand donors, and events like this one.  Daily, we must get 1000 donors per day to support the needs of the hospitals”  That same day, they had eight other teams around the south shore.

The mounting and dismounting of all the equipment is something to see.  A clockwork system where every material was designed to be easily moveable and rolled out.  Even the truck is specially designed to facilitate packaging and ordering of the materials.

All in all, another great community event at NOVA!
