The Boys Are Back in Town

The NOVA Northstars men’s basketball team was back in action in the month of March. The team along with coaches Jonathan Shang and Dave Reddick participated in a Home & Home exhibition with Stanstead College. The team went first on the road to Stanstead College by bus which served as a great bonding experience where the team enjoyed reminiscing on their high school basketball days. They had great excitement in regards to touching the court for the first time in their NOVA uniforms. The game was a success, all players managed to participate and get some playing time. The Northstars came up short on the scoreboard, but came up on top with a great morale as the game was close with one of the top programs in the province. Stanstead hosted the Northstars in their dining hall which served as a great cultural lesson for our young men. The Northstars also got to see Stanstead College’s team room, facility and team bus that had a former HSB student Josh Stacey’s picture blown up on the bus. The Northstars were quick to make the connection to Josh and his success, that served as a great modelling experience for some of the boys looking to use sport as a vehicle to further their education.

Over the March Break, the Northstars hosted Stanstead College in the HSB gymnasium for the second exhibition game. The game served as a great sense of building community amongst students in the Centre as some classes came to watch the Northstars in action. Stanstead College then went on a tour of our Centre visiting the different vocational programs, and were amazed by the cultural diversity of our Centre, as they too have a lot of international students.
