The General Development Test (GDT) was developed to measure the general skills required to succeed in vocational training.
Students aged 18 or older (as of June 30) who do not meet the traditional admission prerequisites for a vocational training program may write the General Development Test (GDT). A successful GDT, combined with certain additional prerequisites (which vary by program), can grant access to the chosen program. To write a GDT, students must be registered in their vocational program of choice and have met with an academic counselor to confirm they have the required combined prerequisites.

If you do not have a high school diploma, and are 16 years of age and over, you could obtain an Attestation of Equivalence of Secondary Studies (AESS) through taking a SSET exam. It gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your equivalent skills, abilities and knowledge and thus may facilitate access to certain jobs and programs.

This Attestation does not replace your Secondary High School Diploma. It qualifies you for an admission into the vocational education programs.
