Behind the Counter Café at HAECC

Every Tuesday and Thursday the students at HAECC work in the kitchen cooking up a lunchtime meal for the school. One of the teachers works alongside the students in order to provide a healthy meal at a reasonable price for the students & staff to enjoy.

On Tuesdays it is the FG (formation générale) students who help out in the café, earning credits towards their high school leaving. On Thursdays the SFIS students work in the kitchen to produce the meal as it is part of their program. The students help organize the meal, cook the dessert, serve the food and take the money. It is a great way for them to learn more about cooking and the logic of working in a kitchen and with the public.

In the fall a few of the students from the school were selected to take the “Hygiene, food and health safety course” which is given at HAECC in order to have the official certification to handle and distribute food. The Café has given these and many others a new outlook with the possibility of working in restaurants and maybe even looking into a career of becoming a chef.

Come and try out the meal sometime at HAECC. The whole meal costs $4, which includes the meal, dessert and a drink. The meal is always something new and different every Tuesday and Thursday.

It is a great deal for a great price!
