Empowering Caregivers

Our natural caregivers 6-week (18-hour) community sponsored course given at the NOVA Career Centre came to an end recently and a few of the participants shared with us their thoughts on the experience.

A couple of testimonials:

  • “I know my life is changing and you have helped me to understand how important my role is on this new road with my husband.”
  • “As a caregiver, I became more aware of some local resources.”
  • “I had fun, enjoyed listening to Natalie (the teacher) and enjoyed the camaraderie with the participants. I learned that I am not alone as a caregiver and I learned tips to help my parents to keep them healthy and still take care of myself.”

This unique partnership, between the sponsoring community group Assistance and Referral Centre for Health and Social Services (ARC), along with the CECN (Chateauguay English Community Network), a local community group, the New Frontiers and Riverside School Boards, created a free course which provided the participants with the necessary tools, skills, techniques and strategies to care for a child, adolescent, adult or senior.

On behalf of NFSB we would like to take a moment to thank our partners in the project and especially the teacher of the course Ms. Natalie Ettienne, as her knowledge, professionalism and compassion helped the participants better understand and prepare for their new roles as natural caregivers.
