Students from HAECC were able to experience the effects of smoking through a project developed by the Canadian Cancer Society called the Nico-Bar. Nico-Bar is designed to help educate individuals on the dangerous side effects of smoking. It is done by having individuals participate in hands-on activities such as seeing and safely tasting some of the harmful chemicals in cigarettes. The presenters also had a booth that simulates what a person would look like in ten years should they continue to smoke. Nico-Bar does help give individuals a little reality on the dangers of smoking but also provides helpful support and guidance for those who wish to kick the habit.
