Out And About

The students in the Landscape Operations Program have had the opportunity to practise newly acquired skills off site once again this year. They have found the experience enriching and definitely prefer the ‘hands on’ approach to learning.

Some comments from this year’s group:

‘Really enjoyed it, a good way to give a brief idea of working in the real world.’

‘Good sense of reality. It isn’t a guessing game anymore.   You become aware of the realities of working with clients.”

‘The hands on experiences are great to help me understand the concepts.’

Besides getting out to landscape, on October 16th our class visited the Expo FIHOQ 2013, which is a trade show dedicated to ornamental horticulture and green space professional in Quebec.  The event featured over 300 exhibitors from all sectors of the industry and allowed students to be introduced to all sectors of our trade. From machinery and equipment, to hand tools, from plant material to amendments, from lighting to pavers and stone, the students could view, discuss and obtain information from industry suppliers.
