Visit to Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK)

On October 26th, some of the students along with their Instructor from the Secretarial Studies program, met with Kara Zemel of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) to thoroughly understand the importance of Records/Information Management.

The Records & Archive Manager, Kara, provided a (1.5 hr) overview and question period, followed by a visit to their existing filing system/room. She provided wonderful insight into their vision moving forward, as well as the importance of properly maintaining historical and legal documents.

Kara mentioned that some days she feels like a treasure hunter or detective when researching and locating information. The rewards of a successful find are always tremendous. Who knew paper stored at appropriate temperatures could last 100’s of years!!

Surprisingly,  the students were so animated and interested in Records Management.  Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience.
