“I took it on as a challenge…”

Christine Tolhurst, an accounting student from the NOVA Career Centre, has been working a couple hours a week at the New Frontiers School Board main reception desk since November.  After being recommended by the accounting teaching staff to take part in this opportunity, Ms. Tolhurst went through an interview process and was hired gaining some valuable work experience in an office setting.

Karen Keddy, from administrative services explained, “Christine has proven to be an an outstanding addition to our staff, during her time here replacing at the Board Office. She is a highly motivated individual, and her maturity and professionalism leave no doubt that she will be successful in her future endeavours.”

We decided to ask Christine a couple questions about the accounting program and her career aspirations. She mentioned: “For me, I took it on as a challenge but also it’s a great opportunity to gain experience in different areas.  For example how to answer the phone properly, to deal with the public, learn to be courteous and polite.  It is also a great way to learn a bit on how the school board works and nonetheless it is a great way to put yourself out there and gain confidence.”

Great work Ms. Tolhurst!
